Comment by Karl S-in-California on September 29, 2009 at 4:21pm: The biggest dive shop in the SF Bay Area is probably Wallins in San Carlos.

They also have a pool onsite that you can rent to use. I don't know what the fee there is, but I do know that several of my tech buddies use it for drills from time to time.

I think of Wallins as the hub of scuba in the Bay Area.

Then there are other stores around, some big, others small, but none quite as established as Wallins.

For example, in San Jose, there are Stan's on Bascom and AnyWater on Saratoga.

In Morgan Hill, there is Nelson Dive Center on Lantz and Gilroy Dive Center on Monterey Street in Gilroy.

Santa Clara has Diver Dan's on the El Camino Real.

San Francisco has Bamboo Reef on 4th Street & Brannan. There is also a Bamboo Reef in Monterey and in San Rafael. This used to be the biggest and oldest shop in the Bay Area, but it has splintered over the decades of time. Still a great store, just not as widespread as once upon a time.

I am not too familiar with all the East Bay scuba shops, sorry. Captain Aqua's is in the East Bay at Hayward.

Would love to meet some new people and go diving sometime, but I have got to get a dry suit from the looks of the water around here. Just wanted to say hello!
